Virial coefficients of helium isotopes at low temperatures

Abstract

The values of the second (B) and third (C) virial coefficients for helium isotopes (3He and 4He) are obtained from the experimental P–V–T data in the intervals 0.3−8 atm of pressures, 0.001–0.03 mole/cm3 of densities, and 3−14 K of temperatures. Approximate analytic expressions have been derived in the temperature interval 2−60 K on the basis of these experimental results as well as on the available data in literature. The experimental values of B and C for 3He and 4He are analyzed with the help of the quantum law of corresponding states and the existing theoretical results for various forms of the pair potential of the interaction of helium atoms.
