Abstract
SYNOPSIS An adapted spot-count method is proposed as a census technique for bird communities in Afromontane forests. Twenty 10-minute counts are necessary to census 100% of the species present. Until noon the time of day does not seriously affect estimation of density and species richness. The counts can be done over several days under similar weather conditions.
