Properties of CO-Ar solid solutions near the critical concentration point

Abstract
Detailed X-ray diffraction studies of the temperature-concentration dependence of the lattice parameters and molar volumes of hcp solid solutions of CO–Ar have been carried out near the critical concentration point. The value of the critical index is calculated and found to be β = 0.50 ± 0.05. Such a behavior of solid CO–Ar solutions is explained. It is shown that the obtained experimental data and the results of calculations of the orientational pressure in solid solutions on the curve of coexistence of isomorphic phase and in the supercritical region point towards the orientational nature of the emergence of the critical concentration point observed in the CO–Ar system.
