Abstract
It is shown that the magnetoelastic interaction in the exchange relaxation processes is responsible for sound attenuation in spin subsystems. It is found that in a four-sublattice antiferromagnet UO2 the damping decrement of the low-frequency sound is described by the same phenomenological constant as the damping of the exchange branch of the spin wave spectrum.
