Abstract

The mechanism of high-temperature superconductivity in the Y–Ba–Cu–O ceramic involving the formation of local pairs on copper oxide CuO chains and their interaction with band states in copper oxide (CuO2) planes is considered. The local pairs are formed by holes in filled shells of oxygen ions O2− which are the “bridges” between the chains and conducting planes. The attraction between the holes in neighboring oxygen ions emerges as a result of the exciton transition of Cu2+ and O2− ions to the virtual state Cu+O−.
