Abstract

Destruction of superconductivity by current in wide tin films is investigated. Isothermal current-voltage characteristics with a well-defined voltage-independent excess current are obtained with the help of a film thermometer located directly on the sample surface, and a film-temperature stabilization system. The second critical current, viz., the upper boundary of current region in which the resistive state can exist is determined, and the coefficient of heat transfer through the tin-quartz interface is measured.
