Abstract

The permittivity of the condensed phase of n-D2 has been measured as a function of pressure and temperature. Measurements were carried out under pressures up to 70 kg/cm2 and covered the melting line. An increase in the polarizability of deuterium was observed as a result of crystallization. It is shown that its mechanism involves the influence of the crystalline field on the internal degrees of freedom of molecules. The effect of such a mechanism on the pressure dependence is discussed in different phases of hydrogen in other substance with a dispersive interaction.
