Abstract

Ratiation effects in CO2 crystals exposed to 80 keV electrons are studied by using the electron diffraction technique. The measurements made in the temperature interval from 6 to 85 K reveal the nature of structural defects which are found to be mainly of orientational type. It is shown that for maximum doses (about 1019 electron/cm2) and T = 6 K, the orientational ordering coefficient for molecules in the crystal decreases by more than 20%. According to the results of measurements, an intense relaxation of defects takes place at temperatures below 0.3T melt of the crystal.
