Abstract

The behavior of the velocity of sound is investigated in the region of low temperatures under various thermal treatments leading to a change in the oxygen content. It is found that the temperature dependence is nearly linear and its slope correlates with the oxygen deficit in the YBa2Cu3O7–δ samples. Obviously, this paves the way for developing a method to monitor the oxygen deficit in bulk samples of yttrium ceramics.
