Abstract

In recent years, interest in the problem of the family has risen sharply both among specialists (psychologists, educators, and others) and in society as a whole. The main reason for this is such phenomena as destabilization of the family, the increasing number of broken homes (9.6 million), increasing numbers of orphans whose parents are living (80 percent of the inmates in children's homes and infants' homes), increasing delinquency among juveniles (500,000 adolescents are on the juvenile affairs registers), declining birthrates, problems of relations between parents and children (68 percent of clients in homes for the aged have adult children), and the increasing incidence of alcoholism, drug addiction, substance abuse, and prostitution among young people.
