Abstract

Results of measurements of the flow rate of helium through a porous membrane are used to obtain information about the coefficient of atomic self-diffusion and vacancy diffusion in bcc 4He. The diffusion processes are isotropic and can be treated as thermally activated under the assumption of a monovacancy mechanism. The entropy of self-diffusion activation, the enthalpy of vacancy formation, and the height of the potential barrier are estimated.
