Abstract

Ductile ribbons of the alloy La2–xSrxCu (x = 0.1–0.2) having a partially crystalline structure were prepared by quenching the melt on a rotating disk. It was found that oxidation of the ribbons during continuous heating up to 1173 K or isothermal holding in the temperature interval 1153–1373 K leads to the formation of the equilibrium oxide La2–xSrx CuO4–y with an orthorhombic structure. The oxide was found to be oxygen-deficient, and this accounts for the semiconductor nature of the temperature dependence of resistivity down to 4.2 K.
