Abstract

A new effect of macroscopic coherent 2e-charge fluctuations leading to voltage oscillations of the effective capacitance is predicted for small Josephson junctions. The oscillation period is Vc = 2e/C (C is the total capacitance of the junction), and the oscillation amplitude decreases rapidly with increasing temperature as exp (−π2T/Ec), where Ec = (2e)2/2C.
