Abstract
Colloquial Zulu, as spoken in the north-eastern O.F.S., is nicely spiced with elements from Southern Sotho, English and Afrikaans. This paper aims to study (a) the characteristics of this Colloquial Zulu variety, (b) the morphological and semantic interference of Southern Sotho, English and Afrikaans terms in this variety, and (c) the rate and frequency of interference in rural and urban areas. Various examples of interference are given to illustrate the unique character of this variety.
