Controlling Culm Rust on Fishscale Bamboo

Abstract

A rust-control test was conducted for 3 y.The results indicated that the effective cure lies in scientific culture and intensive management. Chemicals like piperalin proved good to a certain degree. When applied in the disease outbreak area, they produced an instant effect and thus prevented the disease from spreading. The resistance test showed that kwangsi bamboo is immune to culm rust. With a hard texture and fine grain, its bamboo strips are good for making summer sleeping mats. The effects of Tsc1 and Tsc2 against culm rust are to be further studied.
