Abstract

A semiclassical theory is constri1cted for a spin-density wave induced by a strong magnetic field in a quasitwo-dimensional metal with an open Fermi surface modeling the electron spectrum of layered bounded superconducting salts in the family (TMTSF)2X (Betchgaard salts). It is shown that a cascade of first-order phase transitions occurs above the threshold field Hc. The dependence Tc(H) is calculated, and the quantum Hall effect in the spin-density wave phase is explained by assuming the chemical potential pinning in the localized states gap.
