Abstract

Deformation effects in polycrystalline plates of yttrium-based HTS ceramic of density 5 g/cm3 are studied under cyclic bending conditions. Elastic (static Young’s modulus) and strength (ultimate bending strength) characteristics of plates of various thicknesses from 0.3 to 3.5 mm are determined in the direction of the bending force. It is found that these parameters are independent of plate thickness. A transition from a smooth monotonic or irregular nature of stress-strain curves is observed upon a transition from step-by-step to cyclic loading conditions. Possible mechanisms of structural defect accumulation in loaded ceramic samples, leading to a discrete microplastic deformation under cyclic bending conditions are discussed.
