Abstract

The self-diffusion coefficient of an atom is measured in bcc 3He for a molar volume of 24.40 cm3/mole in the temperature range 0.48–0.68 K. The observed nonexponential change in diffusion with temperature is associated with tunneling of thermal vacancies in the investigated helium crystals.
