Abstract
The metastable ferromagnetic τ-phase of the Mn–Al–C system has been studied by neutron diffraction to determine the lattice sites occupied by carbon atoms. The data obtained for Mn0.56Al0.44C0.018 and Mn0.56Al0.44C0.024 samples show that the carbon sublattice is ordered and carbon atoms occupy interstitial sites (1/2, 1/2, 0) in the P4/mmm space group.
