Abstract

Resonant optical excitation of surface waves of a photorefractive crystal (BSO) was observed for the first time when a hologram was recorded by an oscillating interference pattern. The vibrations of the surface relief observed are caused by oscillation of the space charge field and the inverse piezoelectric effect.
