Abstract
The coefficients α T of the change in the work function with temperature are determined experimentally for two-dimensional islands of zirconium on and in the vicinity of the {001} face of tungsten. The values of α T are an order of magnitude higher than those typical for clean metals. The reason is a change in the adatom-adatom binding energy with increasing temperature.
