Abstract

The Rydberg nd 2 D 3/2, 5/2 states (n=15–30) of the thallium atom were studied by the method of two-stage excitation with subsequent ionization of the excited atoms by an electric field. The nd 2 D levels were populated via the intermediate 7s 2 S 1/2 states. The fine-structure splitting was found to be representable in the form of a combination of the terms depending on n*−3 and n*−5.
