[Parameters of carbohydrate metabolism in the myocardium and the liver during general anesthesia with propofol].

Abstract

The effect of propofol upon carbohydrate metabolism in rat myocardium is manifested by activated anaerobic glucolysis and glycogenolysis leading to devastation of glycogen. In the liver, the drug leads to activated anaerobic glycolysis and decreases the contribution of pentosophosphate pathways of glucose oxidation to carbohydrate metabolism and produces glycogen-preserving action.
