Abstract

Results are presented on the influence of the type of silica-containing raw material on the synthesis conditions and crystallization pattern of cordierite glasses. Use of mineral raw material, in particular, quartzkaolin-pyrophyllite rock, as the silicon dioxide source is shown to be optimal. The presence of dopants and an optimal SiO2 : Al2O3 ratio make it possible to decrease significantly the temperature of the initial glass boiling and to enhance the cordierite crystallization process.
