Abstract
The article analyzes the effectiveness of microfinance policies, institutions, and tools for improving living standards and regional development. It focuses on the role and importance of microfinance as an effective measure in regional development and alleviation of rural poverty. It presents a detailed analysis of demand for microfinance services in Uzbekistan, and of regional microfinance programs and their role in area-based development. A simulation model of econometric estimation is presented. The relationship between the demand for microfinance services and regional socioeconomic determinants is discussed.
