Abstract

This qualitative research aimed at examining thematic reflections on women's fashion of political events occurring between 1900 and 1910 employed the document examination method and included three political events with powerful effect fields. Sources concerning the 1900 Boxer Rebellion, the 1905 Russo-Japanese War and the 1905 Russian Revolution and visual images of women's fashion of the time were systematically analyzed, and similar data were collected together under one concept and theme. Reflections of political events on women's fashion were examined under four main themes, silhouette, decoration, fabric and design. The data obtained are shown in tables for each, supported by visual images, and then interpreted. The research findings show that political events exhibited effects on fashion trends in sub-themes determined in the short or long term (macro and micro) and had important impacts on the determination of period trends.
