On Navo’i’s Ancestors

Abstract

In the available sources there is almost no information which might produce a full impression of Alisher Navoi’s ancestors. The poet himself said a sentence or two when the subject required. The informa- tion presented in the works of his contemporaries is fragmentary and, in some cases, logically not connected with one another. This article provides a comparative analysis of the information in the manuscript sources and introduces first initial views on the great poet and statesman’s relations with his ancestors and his relationship and position regarding the Timu-rids.
