Abstract

To describe the elastic anisotropy of the noncentrosymmetric cubic bismuth silicate crystals (point symmetry group 23), real and imaginary elastic moduli of these crystals were determined. These data were used to determine the real and imaginary elastic anisotropy parameters of this crystal. It is shown that the attenuation coefficients of acoustic waves, determined through the introduced anisotropy parameter Δc′ and Δc″ are in good agreement with the experimental values of the attenuation both longitudinal and transverse acoustic waves. The obtained results can be useful for predicting the general characteristic of the anisotropy of the elastic properties of cubic crystals, including the attenuation of acoustic waves.
