EFFECTS OF L - CARNITINE ON SYSTEMIC INFLAMMATION AND OXIDATIVE STRESS IN COVID-19 PATIENTS
Abstract
Abstract. Over the past decade, it has become apparent that the inflammatory process, characterized by the activation and proliferation of endothelial and smooth muscle cells with the formation of a large number of pro-inflammatory mediators, plays an important role. The systemic inflammatory response, or acute phase response, is currently considered one of the most significant mechanisms of the pathogenesis of COVID-19 and its complications [1,2].\n\n\nAmong the wide range of biological and immunological markers used in clinical practice to assess the activity of inflammation, special importance is attached to CRP, which is a protein of the acute phase of inflammation [3-4]. In connection with the pandemic of coronavirus infection, there have been discussions recently about the role of antioxidants on indicators of systemic inflammation and oxidative stress in patients with COVID-19.
