Speech acts of refusals: Challenging the challenges

Abstract

AbstractThis paper attempts to present information about the role of speech acts in English language teaching and learning. For the sake of the study, pragmatics has been selected is the speech act of refusals which may occur in different scenarios and contexts. There are some authentic activities and samples that may assist the educators to implement into their teaching process. Firstly, the article introduces some background information about speech acts and their categories; secondly, it focuses on the speech act of refusals and their interpretations. Finally, it indicates a detailed activity demo which can be used in various contexts and aspects.
