Abstract

This article deals with semantic ranking in case verbs in English. Case verbs can be graded according to their stylistic meaning, depending on whether they are positive or negative. Some lexical polysemantic case verbs are distinguished by the connotative hierarchy of each meaning. Significant differences between the synonymous and graduonymic series are also discussed, with examples of verbs being categorized according to positive or negative coloration, style semantics, and lexeme semantics meaning three basic semas i.e., name, expression, and function semantics.
