RAIN CALLING CEREMONIES IN KOHITANGTOG VILLAGES

Abstract

Since ancient times, our ancestors, engaged in agriculture, expected for a prosperous year. For having productive harvest from the field, various types of traditional rituals were performed. By conducting this ceremony, the farmers hoped for a rainy and abundant year. In other countries and peoples, there were also customs calling for rain, during which certain rituals were performed. In this article, the author, on the basis of scientific sources and field research, provides information on the conduct of ceremonies to induce rain in the villages of Kuhitangtog and its features.
