Authentic materials as a sociolinguistic approach

Abstract

Abstract. The article discusses the role of authentic materials in enhancing the socio-cultural competence of EFL students. As we know, the capacity to utilize language that is acceptable for social circumstances is referred as sociolinguistic competence. According to Alptekin (2002), social context refers to culture-specific circumstances that encompass a culture's norms, values, beliefs, and behavioral patterns. The factor which is given as a suggest to improve this competence, authentic materials, are believed to be the ideal materials for building foreign language learners' intercultural communicative competencies. So, the paper demonstrates the facts and researches this evidence.
