Abstract
In English language communication of non-native speakers pragmatic interference is often encountered because of the unawareness of the pragmatic competence. This paper reports on a quantitative and qualitative study of English pragmatic competence of Uzbek learners by determining their exposure to the pragmatic information. Findings show that English language teachers do not frequently use real life situations which acquire different speech acts. In other words, teacher surveys show that they do not teach any pragmatic knowledge explicitly.
