Abstract

The article is devoted to the little-studied issues of the literary method in sociology. It substantiates the thesis that although sociological scientific approach is not contradicted the literary approach in the cognition of historical figures, social real-life events and groups within the framework of artistic works. A sociologist can and should use not only accurate facts, but also a literary method in analysis of events related to the past of society, and through it to the real social life of society. According to the researcher, great writers and poets are a kind of sociologists who masterfully use literary images in depicting the life of society, as well as social artists who create epic historical canvases. The article argues that a sociologist can have additional opportunities in revealing the mechanisms of social processes by arming himself with methods of artistic analysis. The article shows how real historical events having vivid and vital images can be the source of the sociological knowledge on the example of the historical drama of the great Russian poet A.S. Pushkin.
