Abstract

the article highlights the process of transformation of the lexical and semantic composition of the Russian language during the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. The basis of the article is a general description and the first assessment of the events that took place during the intensive replenishment of the vocabulary with new usual and occasional elements. Intensive changes have taken place in the Russian language during the pandemic: some words and phrases have acquired new meanings, some of them have expanded their scope of use - they have moved from a special medical or social sphere to general use
