Methodology of developing material for different age groups in teaching English

Abstract

Teaching English to Young Learners (EYL) is different from teaching English to adults. It also requires different materials. The competence of teachers also plays an important role in determining whether teaching materials are good for students or not. In addition, YL characteristics, age, cultural context, schools, programs, and lower cognitive development are also important in selecting materials suitable for EYL teaching. This article aims to further discuss how and what learning materials; mostly textbooks, are suitable for learning English for young learners.
