Abstract
This article explores the profound influence of Greek and Roman mythology on English literature. It examines the recurring themes, archetypes, allusions, epic and tragic elements, as well as the rich symbolism and allegory derived from these ancient mythologies. The article discusses notable works that exemplify this influence, including epic poems like Milton's "Paradise Lost" and Chaucer's "The Canterbury Tales," as well as plays by Shakespeare and novels by Mary Shelley and F. Scott Fitzgerald. By delving into the enduring impact of Greek and Roman mythology, this article highlights how these ancient stories have shaped and enriched the landscape of English literature.
