The Heart Emoji: Discourse Analysis of the Usage of Emoji in Social Communication
Abstract
This paper examines the utilization of emojis in social media through a combination of qualitative research methods, secondary data analysis, and discourse analysis. The study aims to comprehensively investigate the subject matter by collecting relevant information and subsequently analyzing it in a sequential manner to address the research inquiries. This research endeavors to elucidate the definition of emojis, distinguish them from symbols, elucidate the reasons behind their usage, and explore the origin, usage, emotional implications, and semantic meanings of the heart symbol. The objective is to showcase the significance and societal impact of emojis and symbols, particularly emphasizing the heart symbol due to its widespread popularity and extensive usage in contemporary communication. The importance of this research topic stems from the fact that emojis and symbols have become an integral part of our everyday lives and communication.
