This article examines the role of women in Victorian literature, focusing on the diverse representations of female characters and the societal expectations that shaped their portrayal. The analysis explores how literature both reinforced and challenged traditional gender roles, highlighting the evolving position of women during this influential era. Through an examination of notable works such as "Great Expectations," "Tess of the d'Urbervilles," "Jane Eyre," and "Middlemarch," as well as the influence of the Pre-Raphaelite movement, the article provides insights into the complexities surrounding women's lives and aspirations in Victorian England.
