Abstract

The use of antiretroviral therapy (ARVT) makes it possible to prevent mother-to-child transmission of HIV, reduce the number of complications during pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum period in HIV-infected women, as well as complications in newborns from such mothers. The risk of vertical transmission of HIV infection from mother to child is significantly reduced with ART during pregnancy and artificial feeding of the infant in the postpartum period.
