Abstract

Abstract This paper considers the interrelation of wear rate of the accelerating gear pinion head and teeth foot, which depends on the number of pinion teeth involved in the meshing and gear ratio. Patterns of wear rate changes occurring between the head and the gear teeth leg, hardened by volume hardening, hardening by high-frequency current, cementation and nitriding, in the presence and absence of abrasive particles in the working environment, when the gear ratio has an increasing (accelerating) tendency, have been established.
