Abstract

The rapid expansion of the digital economy has brought unprecedented growth and innovation, but also significant cybersecurity challenges. This study aims to quantify the economic impact of cyber threats, identify key vulnerabilities, and evaluate the effectiveness of current cybersecurity measures in the context of the evolving digital landscape. A mixed-methods approach was employed, combining quantitative analysis of a decade-long cybersecurity incident database with qualitative insights from expert interviews and case studies. Statistical techniques including time series analysis, correlation analysis, and multiple regression were utilized to examine relationships between digital economy growth, cybersecurity incidents, and economic losses. A strong positive correlation (r = 0.78) was found between digital economy growth and cybersecurity incidents. Time series analysis revealed persistent upward trends in both cyber attacks and associated economic losses. Multiple regression analysis showed that increased cybersecurity investment significantly reduced economic losses, while digital economy growth and cyber attack frequency were positively associated with higher losses. The findings highlight a critical paradox: as economies become more digitally integrated, they also become more vulnerable to cyber threats. The study underscores the need for adaptive cybersecurity strategies that can keep pace with rapid technological advancements and evolving threat landscapes. Implications for policy makers and business leaders are discussed, emphasizing the importance of balancing digital innovation with robust cybersecurity measures to ensure the sustainable growth of the digital economy.
