Abstract

This paper aims to investigate and compare the burnup processes of the VVER-1000 reactor using uranium and thorium-based fuel through simulation with GETERA code. The burnup calculation was performed on a unit fuel cell model considering the central hole of the fuel pellet, and the gas gap between fuel and cladding. Python programming language was integrated with GETERA code to get the results from GETERA's output and visualize the results. The graphs of the infinite multiplication factor versus burnup and the behaviors of isotopes on all conditions were obtained and analyzed. The results showed that Th232-based fuel can be used efficiently in the VVER-1000 reactor.
