Causes and methods for determining the pilling ability of knitted fabrics depending on the fibrous composition
Abstract
Pilling of the fabric begins from the moment of production of the fabric and occurs during the manufacturing process, further tailoring of the product, during operation and during its care (washing, drying and ironing). The pilling ability of fabrics depends on the fibrous composition of the material, the geometric and mechanical properties of the fibers, the structure of the threads and the fabric. In wool products, pilling may appear in the initial period of wearing them, but then the balls, having reached a certain size, disappear from the surface of the material. Products made with the use of chemical fibers, pilling becomes stable and can deteriorate the appearance of products so much that they become unusable. Since chemical fibers are currently widely used in mixtures with natural fibers, pilling is a mandatory indicator that should be standardized in standards for fabrics of various fiber composition and purpose.
