CHERRY VARIETIES AND ROOTSTOCKS AS DETERMINING PREREQUISITES FOR THE ESTABLISHING OF A MODERN COMMERCIAL ORCHARDS
Abstract
Cherry is a popular, tasty and healthy fruit that is grown and consumed all over the world and is considered an elite fruit, as its production does not allow to fully satisfy the existing demand. Cherry production, according to a number of authors [7, 14, 10] has a growing trend now and will continue to grow in the coming years, in accordance with the growth of consumer demand for this type of product. Cherries are consumed fresh, only a small portion is processed into jelly, canned fruit, juice. In order to assess the current state of this highly profitable branch of agriculture and to adapt the best practices of global producers in Ukraine, a review of production volumes, varieties and rootstocks used by the largest cherry producers was conducted.
