Abstract

The article presents the results of a study on the technological and thermal properties of compositions based on waste polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and polypropylene (PP), such as melt flow rate, melting point, heat resistance according to the Vicat softening temperature, strength, elongation at break, and modulus of elasticity under tension. The melt flow rate was measured under standard conditions. Unfortunately, the study found that the addition of PET waste to PP compositions resulted in a slight reduction in the melt flow index value. One of the important parameters for the practical application of polymer materials is their heat resistance. We evaluated the thermal stability properties of the PP and PET blends using the Vick method. Additionally, we calculated the melting temperatures, decomposition temperatures, molecular packing coefficients, and Hildebrand solubility parameters of the polymers and their blends using an incremental method. The thermal characteristics of a polyethylene terephthalate composition with both primary and secondary polypropylene were studied using the derivatographic method. The results of the analysis of dynamic thermogravimetric curves, thermogravimetric derivatives, and differential scanning calorimetry data for a PET composition with both PP types are presented.
