Abstract
The article discusses the features of the formation of the colloquial English language, taking into account the study of colloquial words with symbolic meaning, formed by means of telescopy and clipping. A classification of telescopy has been developed on the example of modern English colloquialisms. The author considers compressive colloquialisms with symbolic gender, linguoculturological and other semantics, taking into account polysemy, homonymy, synonymy, antonymy.
