Abstract

The noun makes up almost half of the vocabulary of any language and it is considered to be the largest part of speech in world languages. The combinability of nouns with other parts of speech is very large and the noun serves different functions in a sentence in terms of its position. Although its most typical functions are those of the subject and the object, the noun may also function as a predicate, attribute, apposition, and adverbial modifier.
