Abstract

Investigating natural water bodies and monitoring the expansion or contraction of their area is one of the urgent issues of today. Nowadays, the possibilities of doing this have become easier based on remote sensing and GIS technologies. Using Landsat 1-8 remote sensing data with ArcGIS software is considered effective. The Landsat satellite platform has yielded good results in conducting long-term repetitive monitoring, particularly in determining the area of the Aydarkul-Arnasay-Tuzkan lake system (AATLS), which is the subject of the study. Images from the Landsat 1-8 satellites from the years 1973, 1980, 1990, 2000, 2010, and 2022 were taken and classified based on unsupervised classification. As a result, analytical digital data on the area changes of the AATLS were generated.
